It is now proved that the mother of Sarah (Sally) Painter is Demilia BROYLES, daughter of Adam BROYLES of Culpeper Co VA and Wasgington Co TN. The verification is as follows:
1. Demelia (unknown) and husband Adam Painter are in several records of the Hebron Lutheran Church of Culpeper Co VA circa 1776. Adam Painter, known to be the father of Sally PAINTER, states that he lived in Culpeper Co VA at the start of the Rev War (in his Rev War pension application.) Also, Moses Broyles was a witness to the baptism of Demilia and Adam's son as recorded in the Hebron church records.
2. Milla Panther (Painter) was mentioned in the will of her father Adam BROYLES in his will of 1782 in Washington Co TN, along with other children including Moses BROYLES.
3. Sally Painter was born to Adam and his wife circa 1791.
4. In 1800 a lawsuit over land in KY, lists Adam and Demilia Painter as plaintiffs. The land formerly belonged to Adam BROYLES.
5. Sally GANN is mentioned in the estate of Adam PAINTER circa 1835 in Washington Co TN.
Thus, even though Adam PAINTER had several wives, it is clear that, when Sally PAINTER Gann was born, Adam PAINTER was married to Demila BROYLES.
Many published pedigrees for Sally GANN list Adam's wife Elizabeth as her mother. That is incorrect. Elizabeth married Adam Painter sometime after 1800.
